Ben Wheeler
bass
Ben Wheeler is a freelance bass player and teacher in the St. Louis area who started his career in the late 90s during the retro-swing fad. He went on to study jazz bass performance at Webster University and get his masters at SIU Edwardsville, all the while performing with Dave Stone, Willie Akins and Ptah Williams on a weekly basis. Ben currently teaches at Webster and backs Dave Venn, Tom Byrne, Dave Black, the Lustrelights, Tango Underground and numerous local and national artists (having shared the stage with Ann Hampton-Calloway, Victor Goines, Bruce Barth and the late “Schoolhouse Rock” composer Bob Dorough, among others). He’s also the parent of three kids and is an amateur artist.
